Dept. Website(KOR)Greetings
As the only department in Korea dedicated to intangible heritage, we aim to spearhead the academic development and social contribution of intangible heritage, which is the driving force behind human imagination and creative inspiration. Ultimately, we respect the value of cultural diversity and aim to establish a new knowledge system by creating future values of intangible heritage from various perspectives.
Intangible heritage encompasses the totality of cultural heritage passed down through generations. While visible cultural assets are considered important, the recognition and research of intangible heritage—the driving force behind the creation and development of these cultural assets—are still in their infancy.
If tangible heritage represents a historical achievement, intangible heritage is a living, breathing modern tradition that transcends both time and space. This is why both domestic and international intangible heritage policies have expanded, and their values have become increasingly prized.
The study of intangible heritage requires comprehensive academic training. Against this backdrop, we aim to cultivate the best experts in the fields of conservation, utilization, and policy development of intangible heritage.
Thank you.
